Michal “Mike” Ballard, Broadview Principal Mr. Ballard has extensive financial, managerial and executive experience from his 15-year corporate career as a CFO and CEO of several successful companies that he either founded or purchased and, in some cases, sold. Since 2004 he has been an active real estate investor and has been involved in the purchase and renovation of over 20 financially stressed single family residences which were subsequently sold for a profit. Mr. Ballard then moved on to buying apartment buildings in the southeastern United States, where he now owns and/or operates over 2,000 units. Mr. Ballard and some of his deals have been highlighted in the New York Times, Seattle Times, and Forbes.com. Mr. Ballard holds BS degrees in Business Administration/Finance and Communications and a BA in Economics from Central Washington University, as well as an MBA with concentrations in Finance, Economics, and Statistics from The University of Chicago. Prior to and during his undergraduate studies he was a United States Marine. In addition to investing in real estate Mr. Ballard was a sought after real estate instructor and multi-family investment coach. Mr. Ballard is the former Chairman of the Education Fund of North Seattle Community College, which operates an endowment fund of $7.0 million and provides scholarships for over 250 students annually. He is an avid golfer and guitarist and was awarded a World Championship ring by the Seattle Supersonics for his services to the team as a youngster.
Michael K. Matysik, Broadview Principal With nearly 30 years of professional business experience, Mike has been a part-time real estate investor for over five years, with investments in commercial, multi-family and single-family properties. Since becoming a principal in Broadview during the first half of 2011, Mike has helped structure and finance multiple properties, consisting of over 1,700 units. In addition, Mike has invested in other properties under management by Broadview’s sister company, Broadview Management, LLC and is actively involved in the day to day activities of all properties under management by Broadview Management, LLC, consisting of over 2,000 units. Mike’s professional experience includes service as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Cardiac Science Corporation, a $200 million public company (Nasdaq: CSCX) from 2002 to 2011, service as CFO for DMX Music, AEI Music and Corning Nichols, and service for over 6 years as a CPA with the international accounting firm Deloitte and Touche. Mike has raised over $300 million in debt and equity financing and has negotiated and structured over $500 million in merger & acquisition transactions during his career. In addition, Mike has led and completed more than two-dozen commercial real estate transactions, valued in excess of $100 million in his various CFO roles. Mike has BA in Business Administration from the University of Washington and an MBA from the University of Southern California, where he was a Graduate Business Fellow and Rockwell International Scholar.
Jeana Lorbiecki, Business Manager Jeana Lorbiecki has worked as a Business Manager for Broadview since 2011 and handles accounting, investor services and other aspects of the Broadview’s business. Jeana brings almost 40 years of accounting and business experience, including time spent with private enterprise, public accounting and with non-profits. Completing her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an Accounting major from the Central Washington University, she obtained her CPA certification in 1988.
Mary Jo Schafer, Business Manager Mary Jo Schafer has worked for Broadview since 2012 as a Business Manager. She is responsible for general accounting and other aspects of the Broadview business. Mary Jo brings with her 30 plus years of accounting experience, including cost accounting, operations management and software business analysis. Mary Jo has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an accounting major from the University of South Dakota and a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems from California Baptist University.
Robert L. Montgomery, II Broadview SFGA, Property Manager Robert is a native of Jackson, MS, where he graduated with honors from Robert Moody Callaway. He is an Alcorn State University, Mississippi College and Tougaloo College alumnus. He began his professional career as a retail department manager and later transitioned into the hospitality industry. Robert has excelled at companies such as Sports and Recreation Incorporated, FoxJet Incorporated, Time Warner and Protection One. He “cut his teeth” in the hotel industry with such brands as Hyatt, Marriott and Bristol Hotel Management Corporation. While with Bristol, he served as a department manager and later as a department head. Robert has extensive management experience in the fields of hospitality, multi-family housing, retail and manufacturing. These experiences have led to his pragmatic approach to identifying viable business opportunities, negotiations, project management, tenant relations and collections. His strengths are his communication skills, time management, attention to detail and his drive to “be better and to do better”. Robert has 9 years of experience in and around property management and has been with Broadview for 5 years. Broadview SFGA (Single-Family, Georgia) is one of the fastest growing single-family management companies in central Georgia. Kayla Ross, Project Analyst Kayla Ross has been an Analyst with Broadview since January 2016. Kayla employs her advanced computer analytical skills to help increase Broadview’s capacity to identify, evaluate and ultimately select properties for purchase that meet the objectives of Broadview and its investors. Kayla also assists with investor reporting and other aspects of Broadview’s business. Kayla’s past experience includes three years at Barracuda Networks as a Sales Operations Analyst, six years in the Air Force National Guard and two years at NASA in Environmental Science. She is currently working towards a Bachelors degree in Mathematics. In her free time, Kayla enjoys playing cards, riding horses, hiking, and reading.
